Darin had this to say about his work:

When I was a child, I wanted to be a witch. My family indulged me in costumes, toys, movies, and games. I loved The Wizard of Oz, and my favorite board game was Which Witch.

What they didn’t know was that I was convinced that the women in my family were witches. I saw how my mother and grandmother finished each other’s sentences and would unknowingly wear the same color, and I desperately worried that this magic would pass down to my sister and not to me. So every Halloween I put on my black hat and cape and furiously zoomed back and forth on my swingset’s glider, hoping to become airborne.

While you won’t find pictures of witches in my photography, this childhood preoccupation would eventually shape itself into the personal vision that informs my work.

We hope you can join us at his opening reception this Friday, January 26, from 7 to 9 p.m. in Inman Park.

Magnificat by Betsy Shank

About her “Nature of Passion” series, she says:

The beauty of nature and the wonderful diversity of people and places are a constant source of creative inspiration for me in my paintings. Joy is the core of what I find when I create. I often celebrate this through bursting colors and a variety of texture!

The energy of life in our natural world and the creative energy that moves me to paint are somehow intertwined. I want life to move me as an artist. I want it to touch my heart so that I can let everything magical I find flow freely from my fingers onto the canvas. I’d like to share something good with the world around me through my art!

Please join us on Wednesday to meet Betsy and check out her work!

“Pittorica” Opening Reception This Saturday

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006
November 18, 2006
6:00 pmto8:00 pm

Our Inman Park shop welcomes the artwork of Andrea Scarantino and Mauro Buffa, which will be shown from November 13 to December 13. Please join us for a reception on November 18 from 6 to 8 p.m.

“Pittorica” features the paintings of two “pittori per caso” who came to Atlanta from Italy, the land of missed opportunities. Andrea Scarantino is a philosophy professor at Georgia State University, and he interprets Pittorica as much as a way to share his paintings as an experiment on the nature of contemporary art and its impact on human emotions, his primary research focus. Mauro Buffa is an architect and world traveler, who prior to coming to Atlanta has lived in Rome, New York, Barhain, the Netherlands, in search for opportunities he did not have at home. Pittorica offers him a chance to explore another side of his passion for the beauty of forms.

Mauro and Andrea work in acrylic, and look very much forward to the opportunity of showing their paintings.
