What's the Hurry?

"What's the Hurry?" by Patti Russell

Inman Perk Gainesville welcomes the artistic stylings of Patti Russell for the month of August.

From Patti Russel:

My artistic style is “expressionistic”. I do not strive to make a sunflower look just like the real flower but rather my “feeling of the flower and its attitude” at that particular time. If I am painting a landscape I don’t copy my photo reference, but rather I use several photos – taking the sky from one, the land from another, a tree from another, and then putting all the photos aside – finishing the painting in whatever way it seems to work best for me. Thus my landscape paintings are not of a specific place – but a place in my mind that is totally unique.

Jan Elger’s Artist Statement:
Art should never reveal itself at first glance; it should be something that makes you think. You should be able to discover new insights about a piece of art with the passage of time. It is important to me that my art work have layers in which the viewer can delve. Often the viewer plumbs the depths of a piece and makes discoveries that even surprises the artist.

June artist at Inman Park location Eric Marston

Come by and view the wonderful paintings of talented in town artist Eric Marston at our Inman Park location for the month of June.
marstonAbout his work, Eric says:
“My influences come from my backgrounds in both animation and architecture. When I walk the city I enjoy looking in the allies and little side streets so when I paint the city I look for views people don’t often stop to look at and take the form of the structures and break them down to their simplest elements. When I paint the figure I aim to take there candid pose and push it into what could be considered a “key frame” or “contact” pose. I use knives to paint and this allows for my forms to stay loose without the precision I gain with a brush. Along with oils in both series I use ink to create the backgrounds of my figure work.”
